The brief
What Butterfli Technologies needed
Butterfli provides on-demand and scheduled non-emergency medical transportation for people with barriers to mobility. Every ride involves several parties: the rider, the healthcare organization or program behind it, the transportation provider, the driver and Butterfli's own operations team.
Butterfli is also an Access Provider in California's Access for All program in several counties. Each county program brings its own service zones, schedules, booking windows and ride limits, and quarterly data reports to the state's utilities regulator.
Before VantaSoft, several development agencies had tried to build the platform and could not deliver it.
VantaSoft builds and maintains the platform, and also serves as Butterfli's fractional CTO.

Butterfli's team books, dispatches and monitors rides, manages riders, enterprise accounts and providers, handles alerts and runs reports.

Enterprise and provider portals
Separate portals for the healthcare organizations that book rides and the transportation providers that run them.

Rider and driver apps
Mobile apps for riders, who book one-way or round trips and follow their ride live, and for the drivers who carry out each trip.

Live tracking
A real-time telematics service tracks vehicles as they drive, and staff and riders can share a live trip link by email or text.

Dispatch automation
Automatic ride assignment, ride offers to partner fleets including a taxi company integration, and route optimization.

Access for All programs
Per-county service zones, program tags and schedules, booking windows, promo codes, ride limits per rider and fare collection.

Healthcare integrations
EHR and clearinghouse integrations on a HIPAA-compliant platform.

Regulatory reporting
Scheduled county-level reports by email, and the quarterly Access for All data reports the California Public Utilities Commission requires.

Incident reporting
Trip incident reporting, added in 2024 with the taxi integration and ride offer automation.
